It's official! The "Songs of John Denver" concert has begun. We're currently putting together an evening of the songs of JD to be premiered in Flat Rock, North Carolina at the end of June 2010.
It's been a long time coming, with much hesitation, but now the fun has begun. I must say that although I was a HUGE JD fan from early in life I was pretty sure nobody would want to hear yet ONE MORE version of Annie's Song. However, I was wrong I guess. Every where I have gone for the last several years someone says "You should do John Denver songs" or something similar. Honestly, it's been amazing how many times I've had that conversation.
Well...I decided it's time to go with the flow. I've asked my dear friend and music director Jeff Steinberg to help me begin to put it together. We've narrowed it down to 21 songs and the process of finding keys, writing charts, etc has begun.
I'm truly excited about this! I'm reminded constantly now of how phenomenal his writing was...not to mention that voice! When I was a kid I never paid much attention to what he was singing about...only that phenomenal tenor he had. Now I hear his heart and soul in each lyric as well as each melody. The man was a genius and his songs deserve to live on and on.
My plan is to do this concert everywhere, so I hope to be able to share it with everyone soon! Thanks again for listening as I continue to follow my passion.
Much love,
Mike
